Yoghurt challenge.

People usually eat yoghurt when they want to look after themselves, and especially their gut.

Live-culture yoghurt is beneficially probiotic, and it is this probiotic benefit which we intend to receive when we buy yogurt for ourselves and our loved ones.

However, market forces have hijacked our gut-ignorance and we now have shelves and shelves of yoghurt-like substances with little benefit. In fact, many will actually cause harm.

Once it has its shelf/fridge life extended by adding preservatives or irradiating it, its wonderful probiotic benefit disappears.

What is Diabetes?

A quote from the website "Vocabulary.com": https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/diabetes

Diabetes has been known since the first century B.C.E., when a Greek physician, Aretus the Cappadocian, named it diabainein, meaning "a siphon," referring to the excessive urination associated with the disease. The word diabetes was first recorded in 1425, and in 1675, the Greek mellitus, “like honey,” was added, to reflect the sweet smell and taste of the patient’s urine. An unrelated and rare disorder, diabetes insipidus, is usually caused by a hormone deficiency: vasopressin (the pituitary hormone that regulates the kidneys).

To bant or not to bant

The danger of the Tim Noakes diet lies not in the diet itself, but in using it to lose weight and not as a permanent lifestyle change. The sad reality is also that using the diet as a permanent lifestyle is impossible for most normal human beings.

I must admit, I did not do a scientific, representative, randomised, triple-blind, placebo-controlled study with independent control groups to come to the following conclusion.

This is the first entry in the first Health Calendar on the first day of the first month of the new year. There are so many issues associated with health, it is almost impossible to know where to begin. But we should start somewhere so here goes:

Dorland’s Medical Dictionary:

“Health is a state of Optimal Physical, Mental and Social well-being and Not merely the Absence of disease and infirmity.”

It is thus a fallacy to say “I am healthy” when in essence you are just “not ill”. That would be similar to saying you are wealthy if you are not poor or bankrupt.

Wellness has exploded into a global $3.4 trillion mega-industry in the last year. A deep desire to be free of disease, live longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives is one of the very essences of who we are.

It is not surprising that there are many trying to cash in when there is this much money on the table and an international growth rate surpassing 100% per year in some regions. Many are pure charlatans, others have the best of intentions but are misguided, and then of course there is contradictions and exceptions of even the best studies.

“If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called re-search, would it?”
