The Fast Doctor replied the topic: water with meals
1. Liquids takes only a few seconds to travel from your mouth to your stomach. Solids takes up to half an hour, so that the (alkaline) mouth (salivary) enzymes (such as Amylase) can work on the food before it is neutralised by the acid environment in the stomach.
2. The second phase of digestion is acid. The stomach makes acid. If you drink with your meal, you dilute that acid. Then the stomach enzymes cannot perform their function well either.
3. Liquids spends half an hour to an hour in your stomach. Solids stays 2 hours or more. A mixture "confuses" the stomach, causing liquids to remain too long (causing heartburn) and solids to leave too soon (incompletely digested).
